Altar Set

Christ Episcopal Church, West River, MD

This set was done in silk dupioni with appliqué and free motion embroidery

Altar Frontal

These reverse gothic arch panels echo shape of the windows behind altar.

Left panel - "Skipjack" boat, native to the Chesapeake Bay area, under sunny skies.

Cneter panel - Cross with eucharistic grapes and wheat design taken from a side window.

Right panel - The natural beauty of the area, showing corn and tobacco as well as flower gardens; the state flower (black-eyed susan) and the state bird (the oriole) are featured.

The rector and many parishioners had input for the designs we used.

Detail of the Rector's Chasuble

We again used the nautical theme, honoring both the beautiful bay area and the gospel injuction to be "fishers of people".

The front panel of the chasuble repeats the shape of the altar panels and shows an anchor cross over blue waves; applique and embroidery.

Pulpit Fall

This hanging depicts a prayer commenly used before the sermon:

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

The curling banner design is also borrowed from the altar windows.

Lectern Bookmarks

At the other side of the church, these bookmarks hold the place in the Bible for the readers.

The flower motif is taken from the altar windows.

Burse & Veil

The veil has the ivy border found throughout the set, and the burse uses Eucharistic elements from side windows.

About Cost:

I can't quote you exact figures until we talk about your project,

but to give you a starting point, here are the costs for unadorned pieces for average sizes:

Frontal

Superfrontal

Bible Markers (2)

Burse & Veil  

$100.00

Then costs increase for trims, embroidery and custom designs.

Oversize items cost a little more, too.

An average altar set runs from about $850.00 to $2200.00

We can work in your budget, even if it means doing one piece at a time.
